8 Songs Prince Wrote But Didn't Sing
Prince was a legend in his own right and a prolific songwriter. Apparently there is enough material in his famously secretive vault to release an album a year for the next 100 years and it was arguments over his release schedeule that led him to change his name to a symbol in the 90s. He was groundbreaking in his own music but also wrote for many others in many different styles. Here are just a few of the songs that he wrote but didn't sing.
1. Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor
A touching ballad of heart break and loss that has been covered by a whole array of artists that include the punk/ska crossover stylings of Me first and the Gimme, Gimmes to the grungey, husky tones of Chris Cornell but it was a Sinead O'Connor who sang it first and it made her a global super star along with her iconic video in which she sheds an actual tear. Powerful stuff. Apparently Prince wasn't too happy with her making the song without him though and even less pleased about her using foul language in interviews, to which she replied in a well known phrase ending in "off."
