10 People Who Got On The Wrong Side of Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift needs little introduction, but in the interests of your reading experience, we will write you one anyway. She is a pop phenomenon and mega-selling artist who is already a stadium-filler at just 27-years-old. A once-in-a-lifetime performer, and someone who has more followers than anyone else on social media. It's safe to assume then, that she'll be around for a long time to come.
However, Swift has met her fair share of critics in her 11-year career, and some have even spawned from what were initially loving relationships, so with that in mind, The Celebrity Lane has profiled 10 fellow celebrities who got under the skin of the Blank Space hitmaker.
1. Harry Styles
Harry Styles recently revealed to Rolling Stone magazine contributor Cameron Crowe in his first feature-long interview since leaving One Direction that dating Taylor Swift was a "learning experience." You're god damn right it was, Harry!
In fact, many die hard Directioners and Swift-cynics were of the opinion that she was using everybody's favorite male pop star for material, and not long after their breakup, Swift released the Styles-inspired track "I knew you were trouble." Poor lad.
2. Nicki Minaj
You'd have to have nerves of steel to take on the Trinidadian/Jamaica, Queens hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj, but the country-turned-pop star wasn't having any of it after confusing Minaj's criticism of skinny women in modern-day music videos as an indirect dig at her.
Clearing the air on Twitter, both quickly reconciled, before Minaj then urged Swift to speak on the issue so in fairness to Swift, maybe the dig was aimed at her after all.
3. Katy Perry
Two of the best-selling female solo artists of their generation used to be pretty good friends, and as the picture below shows, they'd regularly hang out together at awards shows. But things in show business can change at the drop of a hat, but for these two, such change occurred from something incredibly petty.
Yes, one of pop music's most bitter rivalries is thought to have started in 2013 after three backup dancers left Swift's tour to work with Katy Perry, leaving the country-turned-pop star less than impressed. Unsurprisingly, Perry didn't exactly understand Swift's willingness to drop their friendship and even tweeted following the release of Swift's music video for Bad Blood, which is thought to have been inspired by the rift, "Beware the Regina George in sheep's clothing."
4. Jake Gylenhall
Movie star Jake Gyllenhaal seems like an odd match for Taylor considering the age gap, but that didn't stop these two hooking up for a brief period way back in 2010. Allegedly, the playboy actor took Swift's virginity, but it appeared that was as good as it got for the two of them, with Swift penning more than one track expressing her frustration at the doomed romance following brief flings with Joe Jonas, John Mayer, and Taylor Lautner.
The songs, which included the smash hit "We are never getting back together" and "The moment I knew," were all firm indications that Swift had had enough of the dude, but seeing as the Brokeback Mountain star stood her up at her birthday, we think the feelings were mutual, Taylor.
5. Kim Kardashian
It was a celebrity feud that saw two of the most powerful women (albeit one of them is talented and the other isn't) go head-to-head after Taylor Swift reignited her beef with Kim's husband Kanye West by condemning his use of the word "bi*ch" when referencing her in his hit single "Famous."
Kim Kardashian was having none of it, however, and released a clip of the pop star agreeing to her husband referencing her in his single over the phone.
6. Kanye West
The aforementioned hip-hop artist's long-running beef with Tay-Tay has been heavily publicized over the years ever since he took it upon himself to interrupt an innocent Swift's acceptance speech at 2009's VMA's and boldly declare that Beyonce should have won instead.
Cue late 2016 and his wife, as we mentioned above, turned a seemingly settled drama into one that will now likely never be reconciled, though Kanye didn't help himself by using misogynistic lyrics that were definitely aimed at Swift, so we can understand why she doesn't have much love for Kanye in this instance.
Unlike with Katy Perry, nothing malicious or spiteful has ever been said between these two singers, but their disinterest in one another's careers has been evident.
In fact, when Rihanna responded to being asked if she would ever consider being one of the many stars to join Swift on stage at her blockbuster 1989 world tour, she candidly admitted to NME magazine, "I just don't think that makes sense. I don't think our brands are the same; I don't think they match. I don't think our audiences are the same."
8. Miley Cyrus
Remember when Miley Cyrus threatened to overthrow Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Swift as the world's number one female pop star? Well, it didn't quite happen for her, even after shoving her immodesty right in our faces, so you'd think such sultry performances wouldn't sit well with Swift's more sweet-hearted on-stage persona.
And you'd be right in thinking that. Well, sort of. Echoing Rhianna's reasons for not joining Swift's 'Squad', Cyrus, who briefly worked with a then up-and-coming Swift on the Hannah Montana movie, told the New York Times, "I'm not trying to be in the squad. None of my friends are famous and not because of any other reason than I just like real people who are living real lives, because I'm inspired by them."
9. Demi Lovato
While no direct insults have been traded, (at least not in public) the singer Demi Lovato took it upon herself to somewhat criticize Swift's supposed celebration of female empowerment after she failed to tweet about the Dr Luke case which involved fellow recording artist Kesha, who claimed her former producer had sexually assaulted her.
In a series of Tweets, one of which read, "Women empowerment is about taking action now, not when it's convenient", Lovato then shaded Swift once more after it transpired that she had donated $250,000 to Kesha's legal costs. "Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak about something and then I'll be impressed," the tweet read. Needless to say, these two aren't exactly on great terms.
10. Justin Bieber
Last but not least, it's only right we include The Celebrity Lane's favorite celeb, Justin Bieber. We love him because, like Taylor, loads of people also seem to hate him, so you'd think Swift and the Biebs would get on swimmingly.
But what was once a solid friendship now appears to have turned sour after Justin snapshotted a video chat of Kanye West shortly after the drama between West and Swift had blown up. Uploading it to Instagram, Justin captioned the photo, and seemingly mocked his former friend by writing, "Taylor swift what up."
