10 of The Most Kickass Women Ever On TV

Far from being damsels in distress or fawning over a hero trying to save them, some seriously cool women on TV know how to handle any trouble that comes their way and even, sometimes, go looking for it.

These characters are, by far, our favorites who know how to take on the world and do it in style.

1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer

The eponymous hero from one of the greatest TV shows of all time, she had to deal with being a teenager and living on top of a direct doorway to hell, which made it all the more awkward when she ended up dating vampires she would eventually have to slay.

As the ancient prophecy said: "Into every generation, there is a chosen one. One girl in all the world. She alone will wield the strength and skill to stand against the vampires, the demons, and the forces of darkness. She is the Slayer."  And Buffy did it with awesome 90s chic and a top-quality soundtrack to boot!

2. Eleven, Stranger Things

Dressed in a pink party dress, this young lady is silent but deadly and absolutely badass with it! With just one name (like Madonna), Eleven doesn't say much but come for her or her friends, and she will end you with her telekinetic powers.

There is something super punk rock about her buzz cut too, and her obsession for Eggos gives her an endearing charm as well.

3. Cookie, Empire

A fierce matriarch who raised a family and built an empire from nothing, she knows what she wants and how to get it, and she'd do it all again in a heartbeat. Not to be messed with, she knows how to throw shade and take a knockback.

Don't mess with her or her family otherwise she will do all in her power to make you regret it, and that's a lot of power.

4. Samantha Jones, Sex and The City

Head of her own PR company, boldly independent and unafraid of her own sexuality, she would not be kowtowed by anyone or anything, and that included cancer.

She knew about power politics and never held back from speaking her mind or expressing her needs, wants and desires.

5. Ling Woo, Ally McBeal

Ruthlessly smart and cold to her detractors, Ling Woo reached the top of her profession (that's Judge Ling, to you) and made sure everyone knew about her successes.

She was wealthy and made no bones about it, once proclaiming "I'm rich, I only go to work to wear my outfits." She cared not for what others thought of her and strove only for success in her own eyes!

6. Julie Cooper, The OC

Raised in a trailer park, Julie imagined herself living a life of wealth and privilege from a young age and headed for Newport Beach at the age of 18-years-old when she married.

The flame-haired temptress is fierce, and a highly driven and ambitious woman with cunning and guile and is not beyond doing anything she needs to to get what she wants.

7. Wilhelmina Slater, Ugly Betty

Callous to the core and uncaring of others opinions, Wilhelmina was almost cartoonishly villainous in her plans to control the fashion empire of MODE magazine that went so far as preserving the sperm of its founder so as to provide herself with an heir to the company.

She spoke her mind, crushed those undeserving of being in her presence and mastered the art of casual blackmail to epic proportions.

8. Daenerys Targaryen, Game of Thrones

A woman who can walk through fire and speak to dragons, she has seen off people trying to kill her from all angles and has even eaten a stallion's heart as part of a Dathkari pregnancy ritual.

What makes her all the more amazing is that we have seen her grow in stature as Mother Of Dragons and she is still in the running to sit on the iron throne.

9. Jenny Schecter, The L Word

The dark, mysterious and tortured writer moved to town with her boyfriend but then is not afraid to embark on a journey of sexual discovery when seduced by Marian.

With a polarizing personality, Jenny was sometimes selfish and narcissistic, undoubtedly flawed, her power came from her transition into a more likable character who started to come to terms with her earlier sexual abuse.

10. Effy, Skins

The TV show about a bunch of British teenagers just muddling their way through life and having awesome parties along the way was made all the better by the presence of sweet naïve Effy.

With an alluring darkness, she hated the people she was supposed to love and loved the people she was supposed to hate. Even at her worst moments, she was unflappable, and she didn't take any nonsense from anyone.
