Here we look at the 10 most watched YouTube videos of 2016 and see why they had everyone glued to their screens.

10. Brothers Convince Little Sister of Zombie Apocalypse - Cabot Phillips

Getting your wisdom teeth pulled can be a painful and extremely traumatizing experience for some and none more so than Poor Millicent Phillips who thought her kind brother was just dropping her off and picking her up from the dentist's surgery. Little did she know that her two brothers had a meticulously planned out prank, that even involved their mom, to convince poor Millicent of a coming zombie apocalypse.

Still hopped up on anesthetic, it's clear their sister isn't quite with it and when the radio broadcast they are listening to is interrupted by a fake news broadcast, this is when the fun begins. Rushing back to the house the second brother comes out with bags, gardening equipment as weapons and asks which pet they should bring which leaves Millicent screaming for her cat. Watch the full thing below:

After driving around for a little while and convincing their younger sibling that they are heading to Mexico, the brothers finally come clean but it certainly is a hilarious, if not incredibly cruel, way to live up your drive home from the dentist. With nearly 22 million views since April, this video really had many of us laughing.

9. The $21,000 First-Class Airplane Seat – Casey Neistat

Considering it was only uploaded in September of this year, it is staggering that this video had nearly 27 million views, so what is it that got us all watching? Well, it's just one guy documenting his experiences in First Class of an Emirates Airlines flight after he got a free upgrade which would have otherwise cost him $21,000!

Partly down to people wanting to see how the other half live when it comes to travel, it is also endearing about how genuinely excited this guy is at all the call mod cons he can have and play with, in the air and his awe at the fact you can shower in the sky!

8. Donald Trump: “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” – HBO

Before Donald Trump was President-Elect of the United States of America, he was just another nominee that made up the Republican Party's list of potential candidates to put forward for the presidency. Many didn't think he could get that far but when he started to win key states for their nomination, the media started sitting up and taking notice.

British Comedian John Oliver then did a brilliant profile-come-take down of the candidate in a 20-minute segment on his topical comedy news show Last Week Tonight which got many people around the world, of a certain political mindset, laughing...albeit nervously. No one's laughing now though.

7. Channing Tatum & Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls)” vs. Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s “Pony” – Spike’s “Lip Sync Battle”

Lip Sync Battle is an amazing TV show where celebrities lip sync to songs in a performance aping the original artists of them which can result in ludicrous and hilarious images. Understandably, it has massive viral appeal and this was never more evident than when actor Channing Tatum took on fellow actor, dancer and his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum.

Dressing up in drag and shaking his hips to Beyonce's massive hit Run The World should have been enough to see Channing win the competition but, not prepared to take any risks, he enlisted the help of the original performer to appear on stage with him, unbeknownst to his wife and the crowd but the moment garnered nearly 37 million views throughout the year!

6. Water Bottle Flip Edition – Dude Perfect

The Water Bottle Flip challenge has become an unlikely online phenomenon where people film themselves trying to flip a water bottle and get it to land back upright. The channel Dude Perfect took this to new extremes when 5 friends try to outdo each other with this challenge through increasingly difficult and insane takes on the stunt.

Not just impressive, it also has an element of comedy from their over the top reactions and determination to top one another and it got more than 42 million views!

5. Grace VanderWaal: 12-Year-Old Ukulele Player Gets Golden Buzzer – NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”

The TV talent show America's Got Talent sees performers from across the country take to the stage and perform in front of some highly judgemental celebrities in order to win a grand prize and when a 12-year-old ukulele player took to the stage with an original song, not much hope was held out for the young lady with an unpopular instrument and a song of her own making.

The endearing and confident young lady then admitted her friends didn't know she sang before blowing away the judges with a voice and talent that belied her young years and all the judges were filled with praise for the stunning performance and 46/6 million people watched the magical moment.

4. The Switch ft. Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Anthony Martial & More – Nike Football

It's not often that adverts garner such views and praise to be one of the most watched things in the world but when Nike debuted their advert for their sportswear that saw a slew of high profile names from the world's most popular sport perform in a short film about Christiano Ronaldo swapping bodies with a watching ball boy, many people were engrossed by the narrative of how hard work and determination can pay off.

Watched by over 57 million people, the video basically shows how brilliance remains brilliant even without the recognition, that will come much later.

3. What’s Inside a Rattlesnake Rattle? – What’s Inside

The What's Inside channel started out as a 2nd-grade project where a man and his young son cut into sports balls to see what was inside of them but then it rapidly escalated from there to see what was inside various different objects from the every day to the extraordinary. With nearly 60 million views, the video of them dissecting a rattle from a rattlesnake really had people interested.

Given that rattlesnakes are deadly animals that you don't often see, its educational feature and intrigue obviously led a lot of people to want to find out what is inside a rattlesnake rattle.

2. Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen – Piko-Taro

When electronics and computing company Apple announced the launch of their Apple Pen product, a singer-songwriter seized upon the wordplay opportunity to make a short jingle about how they may have come up with the product. Given that he is dressed in garish clothing and has his own distinct dance moves that go along with the ditty many people found the whole thing absurdly amusing.

So much so that the video has 96 million views after it became a viral hit.

1. Adele Carpool Karaoke – “The Late Late Show with James Corden

The British comedian, actor and presenter James Corden, recently moved Stateside to take up reins on The Late Late Show where he chats to guests and has a few comedic and musical segments. Fortunately for James, it has been a huge success with his most popular segment undoubtedly being his Carpool Karaoke, where he picks up massive music stars and performs a medley of their hits with them as well as chatting to them all whilst trying to navigate the traffic and get himself to work.

When singing sensation Adele agreed to do the show, he drove through the streets of London with her as they chatted and sang but with both performers have cross-Atlantic appeal and being at the height of their performing powers, it is little wonder that it has got over 136 million views, easily making it the most-watched video of 2016!
